With Just A Little Thought

With just a little thought to more than tight economics or the bare practical needs, our cities can be wonderful places to be. I say go all the way, for as long as it is structurally sound, something that is built to last with aesthetics in mind brings so much more to a city than just filling a need. Here we have Webb Bridge in Docklands, Melbourne. I had the pleasure of crossing it one day to meet a friend on the other side. This is a foot bridge, it has ramps and stairs and a bicycle lane, it has curves and it has a covering that takes you into a tunnel like play zone for the mind as you traverse through it. Webb Bridge stands alone, not a simple tack-on to the side of the nearest car parade. This bridge connects apartments and restaurants of docklands to the CBD. Along the way you are treated to a stunning view of boats, big bridges and the sun shining its magic on the water, and as you come off the bridge, you walk through small parkland, a playground and sculptures that encourage thoughts of mechanics and how things work in life. I love places like this, they open my mind sing to my soul.
